Artistic Proposal
- What are you planning on creating?
I will make an illustration book and the story will be about a girl who got a kitten on her 6th birthday, and they grew up together, and had a lot of unforgettable memories, such as playing together, exploring together, getting into trouble together, and finally, as the girl grows up she doesn’t have enough time to play with her cat anymore because she is busy with school work, busy going out with new friends in her university, busy spending time with her boy friend. Because most cats can only live for 15 years, after 17 years, the girl is just 23, but the cat is 17 which means it is as old as the girl’s grandma’s age in cat years (she’s very old). One day when the girl got home, she noticed that her cat looked so weak, then she realised that her cat which had grown up with her is already very old, so she starts feeling sorry and heartbroken that she didn’t spend more time with her cat while she was growing up, and now its gonna die. So the end of the story is the cat sleeps forever in the girl’s arm, just like the first day they met, the little girl holds the kitten in her arm such as the best thing she has ever had for her birthday.
- What is your approach to the theme?
My approach to the theme is telling the story of a girl who learned a valuable lesson as she grew up. The story can relate to the topic because the girl and the cat grow up together, then the girl got a life lesson that we always get something also we will lose something while we are growing up, sometimes the ones who have grown with us could just be gone when we are too used to having them around and we never think that one day we will lose them. Now that her cat and friend is gone, she can’t do much about that, that is part of our life, everyone has to face this situation when we are growing up. Birth is part of the growth, death is the same. The beauty of growth becomes our memories, and all the sadness of growth comes with it.
- How are you going to express the theme to the viewer?
I will not only use the illustration to show the story, but also use some narratives on the empty places to explain what’s going on. The whole story may proceed as a flashback, so that will be easier to let the viewer understand the story and also let myself proof the theme of ‘growth’ .
- What items (props, tools, equipment, etc.) do you need to complete your project?
First of all I will use the Adobe Illustration to draw all the pages of my illustration book, I used to think that I might use photoshop to get a more delicacy painting style, but after I tried once, I find that it is very hard to draw each pages with a unitive quality. To save time and have the project done in a proper way, I switch the program to illustration.
- What is your work time line?
I spend a week to proof and decide my story, then the rest of the time I will just work on the actual drawing of my illustration book, so I may have 4 days left before I have to hand in the completed project and have the presentation, I will use the first 2 days to add the narratives on the empty places of each page, and then print it to make it really look like a illustration book.
- Who, if anyone, will be working with you? What will be their role?
I will be working by myself.
- How are you planning to accomplish your goal?
I will work in detailed on each illustration and each word I put on my pages with my own expect and the willing to get perfect, also I will invite my close friend to give me some advice to improve my story and the pictures, just to make sure I can tell the viewers about that theme what I wanna tell in a clearly way.
- How will you measure your success?
We will have a presentation after we are done the work, so I can show my complete work and explain that during the presentation, then I will see how the teacher and my classmates react about what I show to them, so that if they seem really interested on my illustration book, that means I succeeded.
